Ben Thomas writes..
Scion's small cellar door, at the front of the winery, pours some of Rutherglen's best wines. This durif is picked young and is opposite to the bruising durifs that Rutherglen is famous for. With blackberry, raspberry, spice and earth flavours, it's structured and bright with sandy tannins and energetic acidity that's rarely found in durif.

It’s dense and tannic but it also feels fresh and modern. This has been beautifully put together. Tar, saturated plum, chicory and cedar flavours make for hearty drinking, though the wine’s soft texture and overall freshness keep it from ever feeling weighed down. Now – with a decant – or much later, it will work equally well.
