I’m loving the structure of the 2015 Scion Durifs. This varietal is well known for its tannin but the combination of fresh-faced fruit and fine-grained tannin is both beautifully handled here and modern in its presentation. There’s nothing rustic about this wine, despite its power. This wine boasts dense, dark berried fruit, a lick of sweet oak, a kind of smoky, rust, iodine-like character and dark earth notes too. Indeed modern and old-fashioned at once, in the best sense of both words. Long future ahead for this wine too.
