Autumn sees the release of these two exciting project wines!
Ron Diamond Syrah 2015
First planted to Shiraz in 1880, the historic Terravinia Vineyard occupies a small north-facing slope looking across grazing land toward the Murray River, 12km NE of Scion. Replanted in 2000, the vines are two years older than ours and produce wonderful fruit with elegant fruit character and fine tannin. An opportunity came up to manage the vineyard and use the grapes, so we took it! The Ron Diamond Syrah is the first expression of this site, showing savoury oak character before revealing a rounded mid-palate and lingering fruit finish. If you love vegetarian and Italian cuisine, this wine could be the one for you!
Crossing Swords Durif 2014
In the name of challenge, creation and collaboration Rowly has teamed up with Simon Killeen (7th-generation Rutherglen winemaker) to craft a unique take on Durif! This Scion specialty variety has been turned on its stalks, as Heathcote fruit was sourced to juxtapose the Scion style in every way, shape and form! A small run of 1,100 bottles was made by the duo in Scion’s wine shed. This wine exhibits red plum, chocolate and dried herbs, characters indicative of Heathcote terrior. Those who appreciate the Scion style may enjoy this out-of-town rendition that’s sure to spark some good chat around the dinner table!
